Travel Vaccinationsdeparture_board

In order that we know in advance of your appointment what you will require, we ask you to complete a travel questionnaire with details of where you are travelling. If you are signed up to SystmOnline, you can complete a questionnaire on there to give us all the information we need. The questionnaire can be found in the ' Further information ' & ' Travel vaccinations ' section at the bottom of this page. Alternatively, you can pick up a form from reception.

Once we have your information, we will contact you to arrange an appointment with the practice nurse if you need one.

It is best to see the nurse as early as possible - at least 6 weeks before you travel - as a second appointment will be required with the practice nurse to actually receive the vaccinations. These vaccines have to be ordered as they are not a stock vaccine. Your second appointment needs to be at least 2 weeks before you travel to allow the vaccines to work. If you are travelling at short notice the nurses will try to help you, but if they cannot, they will recommend that you contact a local travel clinic such as one of those listed below. All these charge for all services

The following travel immunisations are available on the NHS at the surgery:

  • Hepatitis A
  • Diptheria, tetanus and polio
  • Typhoid
  • Cholera

Highcroft Surgery does not provide the following travel immunisations. They can be obtained from the travel clinics listed below:

  • Rabies
  • Yellow Fever
  • Tick-borne and Japanese B Encephalitis
  • BCG, i.e protection against tuberculosis
  • Meningitis ACWY

There is further information about countries and vaccinations required on the links below

Central America Central America South America South America

Middle East Middle East Central Asia Central Asia

Some travel vaccines are ordered on a private prescription and these incur a charge over and above the normal prescription charge. This is because not all travel vaccinations are included in the services provided by the NHS.
